CYTO 2014 Preview

Hard to believe it’s already May. The activity at Kinetic River has been intense this winter and spring, with new product launches, articles in technical journals and trade magazines , and a variety of speaking engagements—not to mention expansion into new office and laboratory quarters

We’ll brief you on all this in more detail in a few weeks. For now the focus is CYTO 2014 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where we are exhibiting and participating in the technical conference. I’m in town May 17-22 and am looking forward to reconnecting with friends and colleagues—feel free to drop me an email to set up a time for coffee or just stop by our booth (#722) anytime.

Here are a few exciting CYTO highlights you don’t want to miss:

Launching the Danube II
This year at CYTO Kinetic River is introducing a new flow-based technology that enables the FLIM-like analysis of entire populations of thousands of cells in the same time it normally takes to analyze a handful. The Danube II moves beyond the approach that made the Danube I possible, and significantly improves lifetime sensitivity and resolution.

As with any new technology there are some trade-offs: with the 1000-fold increase in throughput, one loses subcellular localization information, and the current lifetime limit of detection is ~ 0.5 ns.

Would the ability to perform cell-population-wide fluorescence lifetime studies (e.g., FRET; bead-based assays; free vs. bound NADH) in seconds be of interested to someone you know?
