This Friday (10/10/2014) I will be delivering a seminar on new optomechanical design tools as part of Hyland Optical Technologies’ October Lunch & Learn event. Hyland Optical, in Scotts Valley, CA, is the new owner of the Ealing brand of catalog components (see Laser Focus World announcement). This event will also include a tour of their facility and some cool giveaways.
** Blog Update (10/10/2014): The event was a great success. See some pictures here! *

Seminar: “Gap Between the Optical World and the Mechanical World”
Speaker: Giacomo Vacca, Ph.D.
This briefing will cover major bottlenecks in traditional design methods for complex optical systems. The many manual steps involved in the analysis and translation of the design, from optical layout to a detailed mechanical model and ultimately to a fully functional instrument, are labor-intensive and prone to wasteful trial-and-error iterations. We will explore the BeamWise virtual optical bench that automates the generation of 3D CAD mechanical models.
Founded as Ealing Corporation in 1961, the company provides optical and opto-mechanical products for Research, OEM and Industrial applications. Hyland Optical Technologies acquired the Ealing Catalog in November 2013. Hyland Optical Technologies is a privately held company based in Scotts Valley. Today Ealing Catalog operates as a brand of Hyland Optical Technologies and stocks over 1200 products at the Scotts Valley facility.
